My gorgeous little bundle of joy is eight months old this week, can you believe it? As of this week, I have cut her breastfeeds back to three a day with the intention of cutting them to two a day from July when I start my placement for Uni. She loves real food and is thriving like you wouldn’t believe. I will post some photos next time. I said right from the beginning, as soon as my band was undone that I would get it done back up as soon as I finished breastfeeding. If I needed any more motivation though, I could just think about the amount of weight I have piled on. OMG...I have not weighed myself for two weeks now, as I am avoiding depression, but I think it is nearly a 12 kilo increase since Kitty was born. Oh well, it had to happen, having a lapband on for ten months last year was not going to miraculously FIX me, was it now?
I have an appointment on Wednesday to see the surgeon. I think it is time to talk about having my band done back up again. Which means more surgery if I decide to go ahead and do it. You will note that I am saying "talk" about it. That's right my friends, I have in fact been thinking about NOT having my band done back up. There are a couple of reasons for this, and that is why I am going to the see the surgeon, to discuss them.
Number one blip on my radar is the fact that even though my band is undone, food is still getting stuck. I have mentioned this in past posts, and I had not been too concerned about it until I really started to think about why it is happening. I have been so busy with all the bits and pieces going on in my life recently that I haven’t really given it too much thought. Now that I think about it, I am thinking that maybe I am having some adhesion issues again. I don’t know if you remember or not, but after my caesarean in September last year, I had to have emergency surgery to have my band undone due to the growth of adhesions in my abdominal area. The surgeon spent quite a while cutting them out. When I came out of surgery I could eat and drink easily for the first time in weeks. Well, over the past couple of months, I have developed a degree of restriction WITHOUT a band! I want to ask the surgeon if going back in will compound the issue and if she thinks I may develop even more adhesions. I am not in any pain on a regular basis, only when food gets stuck, and it eventually goes down, it has not limited my eating in any way. [I have put on too much weight for that!]
The other issue I want to discuss is the cost. I know that the surgeon shouldn’t cost any more than what medicare will pay, so I shouldn’t be out of pocket for her services, but I want to talk to her about the anaesthetist’s fees. The difference between my initial anaesthetist bill and my second surgery was nearly $1000. I think the reason for this was that the first surgery required a specialist to deal with a morbidly obese patient and the second round of surgery was able to be performed by a general anaesthetist. So, I want to clarify the cost before I go ahead as well.
Anyway, I will let you all know what I decide and also what the surgeon says on Wednesday.

I totally understand your issues with getting the band done up. Maybe in this time of your life its a decision thats not so easy to make: and whatever you do make you will do it in good faith and knowing whats right for you. Apart from this issue, you sound happy which is so great to see :)
I was just thinking about you the other day..I'm glad baby is doing well and you seem happy! Good luck on the tummy check and I hope it works out OK..either way.

Lovely to hear from you - miss seeing you around. Good luck sorting out what's going to be best for you. Zxx
So glad Kitty is growing and thriving. She's so beautiful. Would love to see more photos.
I don't really understand the whole lapband thing but giving what you have gone through I can understand why you want to have a thorough discussion with the surgeon before you make your next move. Good luck and looking forward to an update.
I just discovered your blog, and I am wishing you luck in deciding what is best for you with the band. It seems as though you are really making an informed decision. Please keep us posted. Good Luck.
I will be interested to hear what the surgeon says about the adhesions....it is quite plausible that it would be them that is causing the food to get stuck on occasion. Other than that you sound really happy and right in the groove with Kitty :) Great to hear from you:)
